St. Patrick Parish

At a meeting held on the 3rd of April in the Year of our Lord 1856 at the house of John Cassley in the fourth ward of the City of Racine, a building committee and officers were elected in behalf of the formation of St. Patrick's Church. So begins the history of a Catholic parish formed to serve the spiritual needs of those early Racine residents. That same heart-felt impetus continues to carry it forward with love and service 150 years later.

It is easy to document the history of the physical attributes of St. Patrick Parish. The first church was dedicated in 1861, and the Dominican Nuns opened a school in the church basement in 1862. The present church was designed in 1924 by Francis Barry Byrne, a Frank Lloyd Wright apprentice. It is far more challenging to enumerate the countless ways in which St. Patrick Parish lives out its mission of love and service. We will tell this story throughout the coming Year of Celebrations.
